Role Description
As Production Manager (5-shift system) in a can factory, you are responsible for overseeing the assembly department during your shift in a highly technical, continuous production environment. The site produces millions of cans annually, supplying the adjacent milk processing facility. You operate at the intersection of operations and people management, ensuring that production runs safely, efficiently, and at high quality. You play a key role in driving operational excellence, identifying improvement opportunities, and leading your team through ongoing technical innovations and future investments. This is a dynamic role requiring strong leadership, process insight, and the ability to manage complexity.
Responsibilities
- Taking full accountability for safety, quality, and productivity performance during your shift.
- Delivering on key KPIs, including OEE and output targets.
- Leading and developing a team of approximately 15 FTE, including performance management, coaching, and absenteeism management.
- Maintaining a strong presence on the shop floor, proactively identifying bottlenecks and driving structural process improvements.
- Ensuring timely escalation and resolution of technical issues, optimizing the use of people and resources.
- Initiating and leading continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies.
- Contributing to the annual operational plan of the can factory.
- Owning and managing a designated production area within assembly, including safety, quality, autonomous maintenance, operator training, and technical improvement projects.
- Collaborating closely with fellow Production Managers, operators, and support functions such as Maintenance (TD), SHE, QA/QC, Continuous Improvement, Planning, and HR.
- Bachelor’s degree (HBO) or equivalent level of thinking and working, preferably in a technical or business-related field
- Proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, including operational team management and performance optimization
- Experience in a 5-shift or continuous production environment is preferred
- Strong background in Lean, WCOM, or similar continuous improvement methodologies, with practical implementation experience
- Demonstrated success in change management and delivering sustainable improvement initiatives
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align diverse interests across functions
- Decisive, analytical, and visible leadership style, capable of providing direction in a complex and fast-paced environment
