Company
Our client is a large, regulated manufacturing organisation with complex site projects and strict standards for health, safety and compliance. The environment is hands-on and operational, with multiple internal stakeholders and external contractors working together to deliver safe, high-quality project outcomes.
Job Description
We are looking for a Construction Safety Manager to shape and embed health & safety standards across a major site project. The Project Health & Safety Lead will ensure that safety requirements are built into the full project lifecycle—from design and engineering through construction, commissioning and handover—while driving a strong safety culture across employees and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the project Health & Safety strategy, plans, standards and procedures.
- Translate corporate standards and legal requirements into clear, practical site rules.
- Act as the health & safety subject matter expert for the project team and advise project leadership.
- Integrate H&S requirements into design, engineering, construction, commissioning and operational readiness activities.
- Lead project risk assessments, task risk assessments and safety reviews.
- Set up and maintain site safety procedures, work instructions and permit-to-work practices.
- Define and monitor contractor safety requirements, ensuring consistent compliance on site.
- Verify critical safety programs such as LOTO, confined space entry, working at heights, electrical safety and lifting operations (and ATEX requirements where applicable).
- Ensure emergency response arrangements are in place, tested and maintained.
- Provide visible safety leadership through site inspections, audits, safety walks and behavioural observations.
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and non-conformities, ensuring robust root cause analysis and follow-up actions.
- Track and report health & safety performance, KPIs and leading indicators; identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Support internal and external audits and engage with external authorities and stakeholders where required.
- Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement throughout the project.
Requirements
- Strong experience in Health & Safety / EHS leadership within project environments (engineering, construction, commissioning).
- Solid knowledge of risk assessment methods and practical site safety controls.
- Proven experience managing contractor safety and implementing safe systems of work (including permit-to-work).
- Hands-on exposure to critical safety topics such as LOTO, confined space, working at heights, electrical safety and lifting operations.
- Able to investigate incidents and near misses, complete root cause analysis and drive corrective/preventive actions.
- Confident communicator who can influence multiple stakeholders and coach teams on safe behaviours.
- Comfortable working on-site and being visible in the field.
-Temporary Full-Time Contract (1 year)
