Role description
An experienced Environment, Health & Safety Engineer is required to support and strengthen EH&S programs within a complex research and development environment. The position focuses on improving EH&S systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing risk, and supporting sustainable safety performance across the organization. This role involves close collaboration with site leadership, technical experts, and operational teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, maintain, and improve EH&S systems, processes, and practices
- Lead or support implementation of EH&S standards and management systems
- Coach and develop EH&S representatives, standards owners, and subject matter experts
- Conduct EH&S risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures
- Provide technical guidance on contractor safety, construction safety, and permit to work programs
- Support EH&S evaluations for engineering and operational projects
- Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
- Support and verify incident investigations and corrective actions
- Develop and deliver EH&S training programs
- Collaborate with management and operational teams to improve site safety performance
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Environment, Health & Safety
- Experience with ISO 14001 or similar international management system standards
- Experience working within large, complex organizations and change management environments
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety management principles
- Ability to identify systemic issues and implement sustainable solutions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong coaching and influencing abilities
- Business oriented mindset with understanding of operational needs
- Fluent Dutch and English, both written and spoken
- Safety Manager Level 3, Industrial Hygiene qualification, or equivalent is advantageous
