Role Description
Our client is seeking a Sustainability Manager to lead their retail carbon reduction agenda and strengthen long-term sustainability partnerships across multiple countries. The ideal candidate combines deep commercial sustainability expertise with excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex topics into actionable business solutions. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and execute the strategic carbon pillar, including the delivery of customer-focused carbon reduction deals.
  • Develop and maintain long-term sustainability partnerships with international retail customers.
  • Act as the primary sustainability contact for various OPCOs, ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Lead multi-OpCo carbon projects from strategy to operational execution.
  • Manage reporting, budgets, and overall progress on sustainability initiatives.
  • Communicate complex sustainability topics clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • 8–10 years of commercial sustainability experience within Retail or FMCG.
  • BA/MA degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work in multicultural environments.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to simplify complexity and drive system change.
  • Hands-on and strategic mindset, including experience in budget management and reporting.
  • Excellent proficiency in English; Dutch is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Office tools.
  • Experience in the food industry and commercial sustainability topics is a significant plus.
  • Personal characteristics: relationship builder, multicultural thinker, practical and solution-oriented.
Other Information
  • Availability 32–38 hours per week.
  • Willingness to travel to Germany and Belgium 1–2 times per month.
  • Hybrid working model
