Role description
As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will lead packaging development activities for pharmaceutical finished products and combination products. You play a key role in supporting commercial and clinical operations by driving packaging improvements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and acting as a technical expert across sites and external partners. This role combines project leadership, technical depth, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key responsibilities
- Lead packaging development projects for commercial and clinical products
- Act as subject matter expert for packaging components, materials, and processes
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging performance, capacity, and throughput
- Design, qualify, and implement packaging components and platforms
- Lead verification, troubleshooting, and process improvement activities
- Build and leverage a strong cross-site network of packaging and FDP expertise
- Support new product introductions and packaging changes across the manufacturing network
- Coach and support junior packaging engineers
Requirements
- PhD or MSc with 3+ years or BSc with 5+ years of experience in packaging development
- Experience within pharmaceutical and/or medical device manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of packaging development and associated manufacturing processes
- Ability to work independently in a highly regulated (GxP) environment
- Proven project leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working with external packaging suppliers and CMOs
- Experience with combination products or FDP operations
- Strong operational excellence mindset (productivity, throughput, capacity improvement)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience leading cross-functional or global projects
