This role supports the packaging engineering function across internal and external manufacturing sites.


Role description
As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will play a central role in the design, qualification, and optimization of packaging solutions for combination products. You’ll provide technical support across the packaging lifecycle: from concept through commercialization, while driving improvements in performance, compliance, and cost-efficiency. You’ll work cross-functionally across manufacturing sites, suppliers, and global teams.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end packaging development projects and support site-specific packaging activities
  • Act as subject matter expert for packaging components, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on packaging performance and cost optimization
  • Drive verification and qualification of packaging solutions according to regulatory and operational requirements
  • Serve as Functional Packaging Team Lead (FPTL) and coach junior engineers
  • Build and maintain a global network of stakeholders across R&D, operations, regulatory, and quality
  • Deliver complete documentation, including component specifications and qualification protocols

Requirements
  • PhD OR Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in packaging development within the pharma or medical device industry
  • Strong experience with packaging design, development, and implementation processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects in regulated environments
  • Proficient in material science, qualification activities, and supplier collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Self-starter with an Operational Excellence mindset and ability to drive results independently
