Role Description
The Commercial Legal Counsel provides expert legal support on international commercial contracts, liability matters, claims, and dispute resolution. This role requires independent decision making, close collaboration with senior leaders, and hands on management of litigation and arbitration. The position suits a practical lawyer with strong commercial awareness and experience working in international settings.
Responsibilities
- Advise on claims, liability issues, and insurance requirements.
- Provide legal guidance to senior management on complex disputes, claim settlements, and arbitration.
- Review, draft, and negotiate international commercial contracts.
- Monitor ongoing litigation and ensure timely follow up on all cases.
- Liaise with and manage external law firms handling disputes or specialized matters.
- Support the business on risk mitigation and legal compliance in commercial activities.
- Identify legal risks in commercial operations and propose practical solutions.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Law
- Approximately 8+ years' experience in an international law firm or in house legal role
- Strong knowledge of international commercial contract law
- Well developed understanding of liability law and dispute resolution
- Experience in FMCG, food, or pharmaceutical sectors is an advantage
- Knowledge of common law systems and/or class action procedures is a plus
- Excellent command of English; Dutch language skills are an advantage
- Experience managing external counsel and cross border matters
