Role Description
As an ABB 800xA Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and implementing application changes within the process automation systems at the client’s Zoetermeer production site. Working inside a large, fast?moving FMCG environment, you’ll support a factory with 500+ employees and a 125-year brand legacy. In this role, you will be part of the Industrial Automation Team and collaborate closely with cross?functional experts from Global, Digital Manufacturing, IT, Engineering, Production, and external system integrators. You will report directly to the Automation Manager. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining, optimizing, and updating process control systems and related automation equipment essential for production.
  • Ensuring proper lifecycle management of process control systems, including documentation.
  • Guaranteeing maximum system availability and reliability of the automation landscape.
  • Overseeing and enforcing correct use of IA and IT standards.
  • Advising on, documenting, and coordinating the implementation of process improvements following established change management procedures.
  • Actively supporting CAPEX projects across definition, execution, and commissioning phases (FAT/SAT).
  • Managing and supervising automation solution suppliers and integration partners.
  • Safeguarding proper storage, integrity, and reporting of process data for quality systems.
  • Analyzing and following up on issues resolved by the maintenance team to prevent recurrence. 

Requirements

  • HBO-level education with a hands-on, practical mindset. 
  • Approximately 5 years of experience working with process control systems in a process?industry environment.
  • Strong experience with DCS platforms such as ABB 800xA, Siemens PCS7, DeltaV, or comparable systems.
  • Interest and affinity with process technology and instrumentation.
  • Curious, analytical problem-solver with strong attention to detail and ownership.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working in cross?functional teams.
  • Experience in FMCG or similar environments where validation methods (FAT, SAT) and related documentation are essential.
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English.
